Well, I am pretty positive Adyson has eczema. It started out just on her hands between her index finger and thumb now it is in small patch all over her hands and legs. I have seen two pediatricians who have both said it was mild(that was before now) and to just put lotion on her. My mom gave me this great lotion she uses for her mild eczema, St Ives Whipped silk, and I use a eczema baby bath(the one with Winnie the Pooh on the bottle) but sense it is becoming more of a problem, I wonder if there is something better out there. Does anyone know of anything?
I know nothing of eczema, I need to do some research, is it caused by anything or irritated in certain ways?
I am debating on going back to the doctor. Should I?

Suggestions for Eczema

Hi Mary! Lily has a syndrome that can cause severe skin problems. Thankfully, she is only mildly affected by eczema. We attended a family conference for children with similar syndromes as hers a couple of years ago. There was a seminar on skin issues and the dermatologist told all of us that the best thing for dry, cracking skin is actually plain old vaseline. Well, I wasn't really convinced that it could be that easy. We continued to use other creams, such as prescription Elidel and all kinds of over the counter lotions. They never really worked that well. So, I decided to give the vaseline a try. It has been amazing! I put it on her every night after her bath and it is working great! Maybe it will help Addison too. At least it's something you could try before you consult a doctor. Hope it helps!
I am going to try it. The lotion I have been using (St Ives whipped silk) has been the best thus far but the eczema never goes away it will be less crackly but still looking red and dry. Thanks I'll let you know how it goes with the Vaseline.
I forgot that you asked what can cause eczema. In Lily's case, I've noticed that certain detergents can be irritating to her skin. Alisa told me that she used All Free & Clear, so I started using that. I doesn't seem to bother her skin. It also seems like if I use a lotion with perfume in it, her skin reacts to that too. There are certain foods that can cause eczema as well. Sometimes people just have it and there doesn't really seem to be a reason at all.
Both of my boys have eczema. Jacob had it really bad as an infant and Luke has it mostly under his lips and on his legs. The doctor gave Jacob a steroid cream, which I only used a few times because I was a little uneasy about it. I started putting Aquaphor on it every morning and night and it completely went away (as long as I was good about doing it). You could even see a white spot where the rough skin was, but there were no more bumps. It worked wonders for us.
Sasha had eczema. It wasn't as bad as some babies apparently get, but we use Eucerin crème lotion and the Aveeno extra moisturizing baby bath. We don't bath him very often because it'll make things worse.
Also, we found that any sort of residues from cleaners aggravated it. So we went to a fragrance/dye free laundry products and started cleaning withot 'cleansers'. We got a steamer for Christmas and have been using that. It's working wonderfully and he is doing much better. We have to also watch what we use on ourselves too. A perfumy lotion or something will have his skin issues worse again.
Bryce had a mild case of it once and I did an herbal treatment on it that I was told about. It worked better than anything else. I'll get the info for you and get it to you.
